Walker Art Center seeks an CURATORIAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT to assist the Senior Curator, Design, Research, and Publishing in the research, planning and production of exhibitions and publications for three upcoming projects, involving aspects of modern and contemporary architecture, design, and visual art. This individual will act as a liaison with artists, collectors, dealers, lenders, and museum staff involved in exhibition and publication production.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general curatorial assistance in the planning and organization of exhibitions, including scholarly research and logistical support in the preparation of checklists, loan requests, rights and permissions, transcriptions, exhibition catalogues, interpretive materials, related public programs, and other exhibition-related materials.
  • Provide clerical support to the Senior Curator as needed, including correspondence and mailings.
  • Develop and assist with the production of online content related to the Visual Arts program for the Walker’s blogs and website.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in art, architectural or design history or related field.
  • Experience with the exhibition and publication making process is highly desirable.
  • Prior curatorial or museum experience is desirable.
  • Must possess strong research skills.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal skills.
  • Must be able to communicate and collaborate well with others in the realization of complex projects.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented with excellent planning and implementation skills.
  • Must be able to work independently, able to anticipate needs on projects.
  • Must be able to track various tasks and able to meet multiple deadlines.

Compensation and Hours

  • $18-25 per hour (commensurate with experience), museum discounts, Walker membership and the opportunity to work with some incredibly talented individuals.
  • Approximately 20-25 hours per week. This is a temporary, part-time position. The duration of this role is through October 2015.
