Anywhere but here: curatorial opportunity at apexart

apexart’s Franchise Program open call is an opportunity for anyone to submit a proposal for an idea-driven group exhibition taking place anywhere in the world – except New York City. Three winning shows will be part of apexart’s 2014-15 Exhibition Program.

Proposals contain up to 500 words and outline an idea-based exhibition that features the work of at least 3 artists. Winning proposals are selected by an international group of more than 125 jurors voting online in a crowd-sourcing process to determine which submissions will receive funding and full administrative support to mount their exhibition in the location of their choosing. Proposals are evaluated anonymously on the strength of the idea alone.

Exhibitions can be about any idea or theme that the organizer finds compelling. Past shows have explored highway construction and the resulting neighborhood destruction in Mexico City, Mexico; the effect of globalism on street vending in Phnom Penh, Cambodia; the link between science and extracurricular activities in Los Angeles, USA; do-it-yourself manufacturing in Bangkok, Thailand; and contemporary video art remixed by famous African video DJs in Kampala, Uganda. No prior curatorial experience is necessary and organizers do not need to be from or living in the location of the proposed Franchise. We encourage submissions from creative people of all backgrounds and professions.

Proposals are accepted online at www.apexart.org/franchise.php from February 15 – March 15, 2014.
