Curatorial Internship

elmhurst

Elmhurst Art Museum is seeking a self-motivated art history or arts administration graduate student or upper level undergraduate with a specific interest in contemporary art and architecture to assist EAM’s Chief Curator with tasks related to upcoming exhibitions and public programs. The position would begin as soon as possible. The intern will assist with daily activities related to EAM’s major fall exhibition Lessons from Modernism: Environmental Strategies in Architecture, 1925-1970, as well as participate in research, writing, registrarial and administrative activities related to the first EAM Biennial, opening in December 2015. The curatorial intern will also research future exhibition ideas and assist with collection management and other projects as assigned.

In addition to curatorial responsibilities, the intern will be able to experience the day-to-day operations of a contemporary art museum and historical house, as the museum includes Mies van der Rohe’s McCormick House, built in 1952, as well as observe and learn more about other museum departments and staff roles.

Candidates must have exceptional research and writing skills, strong organizational abilities, computer skills, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. The intern must commit to a minimum of two days per week for the agreed upon duration of the internship, which is typically four months. This internship includes a small stipend of $20/day to cover transportation expenses. Interns may also earn credit through their schools.

Elmhurst Art Museum is approximately 15 miles west of downtown Chicago and is easily accessible by Metra train from Ogilvie Station in the Loop or by car.

Please submit a cover letter, resume including references, and a writing sample (1-2 pages) by email to Staci Boris, sboris@elmhurstartmuseum.org.
