SCAD seeks an assistant curator with knowledge, passion, and experience with modern and contemporary art and design to enhance SCAD exhibitions.

In this position you will support the development of exhibition proposals and research visiting and SCAD artists for consideration in both on- and off-campus exhibitions. Prior to each exhibition, you will oversee all aspects of the layout and installation, including developing checklists and itineraries for approved exhibitions, hosting visiting artists and conducting studio visits with artists as needed, and communicating effectively and professionally with prospective artists about exhibition spaces, logistics and deadlines.

In addition, you will research and contribute to exhibition summaries, catalogs and marketing texts, and gather images and other artist press materials for publications, docent preparation and press needs. You will also be responsible for guiding SCADM.F.A. candidates in scheduling, planning and installing master’s thesis exhibitions in accordance with SCAD guidelines.

Developing relationships with SCAD faculty in various departments is essential in order to foster dialogue and create shared goals for programming. Externally, you will develop and execute community-based and educational programs to complement major exhibitions and network with local arts organizations and media as required.

The ideal candidate possesses strong presentation skills and can deliver curatorial talks and tours of exhibitions to the SCAD community, patrons and the public, as well as conduct class visits as requested. You should enjoy working in a team-oriented environment, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and be prepared to travel as needed to conduct research and promote SCAD and its exhibition program.

Requirements:

– Master’s degree in art history, arts administration or education
– Three years’ related experience in a museum or gallery setting (exclusive of internships)
– Valid driver’s license
