Curator of Drawings

COURTAULD INSTITUTE OF ART

The Courtauld Gallery is seeking to appoint a curator

Deadline:  October 8, 2015

The Courtauld Gallery is home to world-renowned collections of paintings, drawings, and decorative arts ranging from the early Renaissance to the present. It also organises an acclaimed programme of temporary exhibitions and displays. Set in historic Somerset House in central London, the Gallery is an integral part of The Courtauld Institute of Art, an international centre for the teaching and study of the history of art and conservation.

The Courtauld Gallery is seeking to appoint a curator to take charge of its distinguished collection of some 7,000 drawings, pre-1900. Responsibilities of the post include exhibitions and displays – including the programme for the new Drawings Gallery; research; and the use of the collection in the Study Room.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in the history of art, substantial curatorial experience, specialist expertise in the field of drawings, and be able to work across the range of the collection, with an emphasis on the holdings before around 1800.  The post requires a committed and dynamic approach to working within a small curatorial team, together with excellent organisational and communication skills.
