Tate seeks an assistant curator

TATE-N

Assistant Curator

Opportunity type: Fixed-term, Part-time
Working hours: 21.6 hours
Salary: Pro rata
Location: St Ives – Tate St Ives
Closing date:  January 07, 2016 at 17:00

Through its innovative exhibition and education programmes drawing on the Tate Collection, Tate St Ives encourages a greater understanding and enjoyment of modern and contemporary art in the unique cultural context of St Ives. We also manage the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden. This is your chance to play a significant part in our development as we build our extension and expand our gallery space: Tate St Ives Phase Two. This will see the gallery space double along with improved visitor facilities and learning spaces.

You will play a key role in the organisation and delivery of major exhibitions and collection displays at Tate St Ives. We’ll look to you to ensure effective communication across teams to deliver projects successfully, within budget and to the highest standards. You will work closely with Exhibitions and Displays Curators to develop and realise the programme of exhibitions, displays, interpretation and events while contributing to research and negotiating loans to inform and support the exhibition-making process. Preparing budget estimates will also fall within your remit.

You’ll come to us with a sound knowledge of twentieth century and contemporary art perhaps gained through a degree or MA in curatorial or art history or similar. Alternatively, you will have a similar level of knowledge and thinking ability. This will be matched by paid or voluntary experience of working in a museum or gallery, including organising exhibitions. Imaginative in your approach to exhibition organisation, you will have excellent organisational and administrative skills together with a flair for communication with a range of audiences. A working knowledge of at least one foreign language would be desirable.
