Checkpoint Helsinki is seeking a Programme Director

Checkpoint Helsinki is a contemporary art organisation with a pioneering attitude and a history of creating new initiatives since it was founded in 2013. Checkpoint Helsinki invites curators and artists to Finland to make contemporary art of a high artistic quality and compelling content. We collaborate with different local actors and contribute to the development of Helsinki as a cultural city.

We are currently seeking a visionary Programme Director who is very familiar with the international contemporary art field. The Programme Director is responsible for Checkpoint’s programme and its content. In collaboration with the advisory board, s/he chooses the invited curators and develops the projects with the artists and curators. S/he also generates ideas for the rest of the programme and produces it independently and in cooperation with others. The Programme Director represents the organisation and leads its activities, develops networks and fosters contacts with collaborative partners, and is in charge of searching for additional funding.

The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of contemporary art and a clear vision of the future tasks and roles of a contemporary art organisation. This task requires experience in management and running large projects, negotiation skills and a love of creative cooperation. Experience in participating in public debate and an interest in creating new operating models will also be useful.

Work will begin as soon as possible and is for a fixed term until end of 2019.

Please send your one-page application in English explaining how you would carry out these tasks and develop Checkpoint Helsinki’s activity along with your resume to info@checkpointhelsinki.org. Please include the name and contact details of at least two referees.

Applications must be received by 31.3.2017.
