2 CURATORS

for a 2-year-period beginning in January 2019.

Aalto University is seeking applicants for two full-time curator positions, for a period of two-years, for the university galleries and exhibition spaces associated with the Art and Creative Practices (ACP), one of the core elements of Aalto. At Aalto University, ACP is responsible for engaging artistically and creatively the entire university, across disciplines and schools, and includes numerous display venues for artworks, artifacts, and other materials (see showcase.aalto.fi).

Main duties and responsibilities

The curators’ will work collaboratively within a larger working group dedicated to sharing and co-creating transdisciplinary artworks, projects, and events. The content is developed in relationship to the changing demands of the university and society, the curatorial and cultural fields, and regional, and global stakeholders. We put an emphasis on developing ways to promote educational thinking in an open conversational and dialogic manner, and create a vibrant environment for different communities to experience a variety of perspectives.

Requirements

The successful candidates will have strong knowledge of, and experience in the curatorial field, exhibition installation and management. They will have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English and independent working skills. Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate a clear interest in working across and through different disciplines, fields of study, and areas of knowledge. Additionally, it is highly desirable that the candidates have skills in event and exhibition promotion and documentation, website maintenance, and engagement with social media.

Salary and place of work

The salary is determined based on experience and qualifications according to the salary system of Aalto University. The position is located in Helsinki metropolitan area.
