The position
This role works directly to the Senior Curator of the department to deliver the National Gallery of Australia’s (NGA) exciting and varied contemporary art program. The Curator plays a central role in the department’s aspirations to deliver successful, intellectually engaging and innovative contemporary projects and exhibitions, undertake unique research, work closely with artists, and produce significant publications in the field of global contemporary art.

Under the guidance of the Senior Curator, and in close-collaboration with other NGA curatorial departments, the position undertakes varied curatorial duties including acquisition and exhibition activities, coordination of the collection, research and publishing, and the display of the contemporary collection as it develops.

The successful applicant will be a highly skilled collaborator with experience in working closely with artists, and an in-depth knowledge of contemporary art, with an emphasis on international arts practice.

Substantial demonstrated experience in museum practices and procedures, including collection development activities, accurate museum cataloguing methods, and the co-ordination of works of art for exhibition and display, including online accessibility, preferably in contemporary art, ideally international is required.

This is a full-time, ongoing employment opportunity within the Contemporary Art Section of the International Art Department.
