FUNCTIONS

The Curator of Public Programme and Performance plays a key role within Mudam’s curatorial team which is situated within the museum’s Department of Artistic Programmes & Content. Reporting to the Head of Artistic Programmes & Content, the Curator of Public Programme and Performance develops and delivers the museum’s programme of talks, screenings and performances. The role also serves to enhance Mudam’s collection of contemporary art, contributing to the acquisition of performance-based works. 

MISSION

To research, develop and deliver a programme of lectures, talks, symposia, film screenings and other events that provide a point of exchange and deepen engagement with Mudam’s programme of exhibitions and the museum’s collection. To give performance a visible platform within the artistic programme of the museum; leading on and executing the process for commissioning, co-commissioning and presenting an inspiring programme of live art and performance that is ambitious and innovative in scope and executed to the highest possible standards.

ACTIVITIES & TASKS

  • TO DEVELOP AND DELIVER THE MUSEUM’S PROGRAMME OF PERFORMANCE
    • To research and develop ideas and proposals for Mudam’s programme of live art and performance.
    • To play a hands-on role in the delivery of Mudam’s programme of performance, overseeing all aspects of the production and ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
    • To lead on the planning process, briefing colleagues in other departments and working with the museum’s Building Manager and technical team to ensure the highest standards of presentation and documentation.
    • To work closely with artists to produce their projects in collaboration with other external contractors including performers, curators, designers, artists’ agents, fabricators, etc.
    • To liaise with partners to host and tour projects.
    • To coordinate travel itineraries and bookings for invited guests. 
  • TO DEVELOP AND DELIVER THE MUSEUM’S PUBLIC PROGRAMME
    • To research and develop ideas for Mudam’s public programme of lectures, film screenings, talks and other events.
    • To work in close collaboration with the Head of Artistic Programmes & Content, exhibition curators and Public Engagement team to produce a coherent programme alongside the museum’s exhibitions and collection displays.  
    • To liaise with colleagues to coordinate presentations by guest speakers and content such as the loan of film or other materials.
    • To work closely with the Communications Department on a strategy for audience development for the museum’s Public Progamme.
  • TO PLAY A KEY ROLE AS A MEMBER OF THE CURATORIAL TEAM
    • To introduce and host events as appropriate. 
    • To contribute curatorial research and ideas for integrating Mudam’s programme of performance within its exhibitions, collection and displays. 
    • To work with colleagues to secure funding and sponsorship and set budgets for approval, preparing estimates and to monitor expenditure in accordance with the Museum’s financial procedures.
    • To nurture relationships between other institutions, both locally and internationally, identifying opportunities for co-commissioning and other collaborations and partnerships.
    • To prepare interpretative materials and assist in the preparation of applications for funding and materials for press and marketing.
    • To maintain the museum’s records, documenting projects in electronic and paper archives. 
    • To support the acquisition of works for the museum collection as appropriate.
    • To represent Mudam at meetings and other events as requested. 

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Strong administrative and organisational skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including public speaking
Experience of working with budgets
Computer literacy
Fluency in French and English. A working knowledge of German or Luxembourgish is also an advantage.

A broad knowledge of contemporary art and culture with a particular interest in performance and interdisciplinary practices
Commitment to working with broad audiences and making contemporary art accessible
A hands-on, skilled project manager
Ability to manage a varied workload and remain calm under pressure

Flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends
